KLBB AM
KLBB was a notable call sign in Minnesota radio history, associated with two distinct AM stations that served the Twin Cities area: KLBB 1400 AM in St. Paul and KLBB 1220 AM in Stillwater.
KLBB 1400 AM – “Club 14” (St. Paul)
KLBB 1400 AM, branded as “Club 14,” was a station in St. Paul, MN. In 1982, the station adopted the KLBB call letters and featured a staff that included many former WCCO Radio personalities such as Chuck Lilligren, Franklin Hobbs, Howard Viken, Joyce Lamont, Tim Russell, and Ruth Koscielak.
The station's format focused on adult standards and middle-of-the-road music, often referred to as "Music of Your Life." In 1993, Cargill Communications purchased KLBB and began simulcasting its programming on 1470 AM to improve signal coverage.
In 2005, American Public Media sold KLBB to Davidson Media Group. Following the sale, AM 1400 transitioned to a Spanish-language format.
KLBB 1220 AM – “Club 1220” (Stillwater)
KLBB 1220 AM, known as “Club 1220,” was licensed to Stillwater, Minnesota, and adopted the KLBB call letters in 2006.
KLBB 1220 AM featured a format of adult standards and classic hits, with programming that included “The Wolf Brewing All Request and Dedication Show with Stan Turner, " The Morning Show with Jeff Petersen.” and "Flashback Twin Cities with Tom Oszman." The station was also the Twin Cities affiliate of the Green Bay Packers Radio Network and served as the flagship station for Saint Paul Saints Baseball and Stillwater Ponies Football.
Despite its loyal listenership, KLBB faced challenges in its later years, including the need to replace its aging tower and the increasing value of the land for residential development. The station ceased broadcasting at on March 31, 2018 concluding its final broadcast with Frank Sinatra's "One for My Baby (And One More for the Road)." KLBB ultimately surrendered its license to the FCC in September 2022.
