REMEMBERING DAN DONOVAN
Dan Donovan, born Blaine Harvey, passion for radio began early; at 16, he and a friend set up an illegal radio station on his parents' sun porch, broadcasting to the town's 800 residents until the FCC shut it down.
Donovan started his professional radio career at WGET in Gettysburg, followed by WSBA in York, PA. After studying journalism at Pennsylvania State University, he worked at WICE in Providence, RI, in the early 1960s. He then moved to WMEX in Boston and WCBM in Baltimore.
Donovan gained significant recognition during his decade-long tenure as "Dangerous Dan Donovan" at WFIL in Philadelphia, where he was part of the station's famed "Boss Jocks" lineup. In 1979, he relocated to the Twin Cities, joining KS95 FM, and later moved to KOOL 108 FM in 1991. Known affectionately as "The Geezer," he hosted popular afternoon drive and Sunday oldies shows.
Donovan's unique style and deep knowledge of music history made him a standout figure in radio. In 2006, he was inducted into the Minnesota Broadcasting Hall of Fame, acknowledging his significant contributions to the industry.
Donovan passed away in 2014 at the age of 73.
