REMEMBERING DICK CHAPMAN (1930-2015)

Born in Kansas City, MO, Dick Chapman studied journalism at the University of Missouri before joining WCCO Radio in 1957 as a news writer for Cedric Adams. He remained with the station for 36 years, retiring in 1993.
Chapman is best remembered for his groundbreaking live coverage during the May 6, 1965, tornado outbreak in the Twin Cities. That evening, six tornadoes struck the region, including two F4 tornadoes resulting in 13 fatalities and over 500 injuries.
In addition to his news reporting, Chapman co-hosted "Honest to Goodness," a popular WCCO Radio program in the 1960s, alongside Randy Merriman and Charlie Boone. The show featured a mix of lighthearted banter and listener interaction, reflecting Chapman's versatility and engaging on-air presence.
Dick Chapman passed away in 2015 at the age of 84.
